“New York is a beautiful state that has inspired many icons to achieve nothing but greatness. As an independent artist, I feel as if it is my responsibility to create quality content instead of rushing to create tracks”, states PrinceLil.
During this past decade, many musicians have decided to push for independence as it allows less restrictions from labels in regards to when artists can release music.
According to Rolling Stone, “a new report says independent artists could generate more than $2 billion in 2020”.
For example, composers such as Frank Ocean, Ashanti, Mýa, and Chance the Rapper are some of the many performers that are no longer bound to their confining contracts.
“In terms of inspiration, I respect A Boogie wit da Hoodie and J.I. because they really started the whole melody infusion within rap in New York. Furthermore, in the next five years I will be one of the next mainstream artists out of the city”, explains PrinceLil.
